LELP - for experienced University educational leaders


This international, collaborative programme will provide participants with an opportunity to develop their expertise and experience in strategic educational leadership, working with a network of peers from other northwest European Universities.


Through residential and online workshops, a study tour and support for a personal educational leadership project, participants will deepen their awareness and understanding of key leadership, pedagogic and change management theories and practices. With contributions from senior educational leaders, leadership and educational experts, and their programme peers, participants will deepen their understanding of the common challenges and opportunities faced internationally, and gain new insights to local contexts.


All elements of the programme are compulsory and participants will need to allocate around 30 days to the programme. All sessions will be in English.


Outline programme

  • Preparatory meetings with local coordinators 
  • Residential workshop 1 (Copenhagen) 

  • Study tours 

  • Residential workshop 2 (Edinburgh) 

  • Individual project work will take place between the residential workshops, study tour and conference.

  • Closing conference (Utrecht) 

Intended audience

The programme has been tailored to the needs of experienced University educational leaders. This includes heads of studies, pro-deans of education and departmental teaching heads, as well as those leading institutional pedagogic and curriculum development. Participants will have previously completed a University teacher training programme or equivalent, and will have a substantive educational development or change project that they will initiate or work on as part of this programme.


Costs and application process

Each University is invited to nominate two to four participants.
The cost per participant is € 7000, including accommodation and excluding travel. Danish participants will receive a fee reduction and have payment of their travel expenses covered by government subvention (FUSA). The price for Danish participants is DKK 37.000.


The programme is a result of a co-operation between strongly developed pedagogical environments of following universities: University of Copenhagen, University of Edinburgh, Leiden University, University of Southern Denmark and Utrecht University.
